Today marked a monumental day as not one, but two Team Honda HRC riders took podiums at the AMA Championship Supercross Round held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Hunter Lawrence delivered an impressive performance to become the 250SX East Region Champion; this was his seventh win of the season and eighteenth career main event victory. His teammate Chase Sexton also emerged victorious in the 450SX class for his second consecutive win with Team Honda HRC. What a terrific accomplishment for these accomplished athletes! They have worked tirelessly all season long and today, their commitment paid off with top honors of the 2021 AMA Supercross Eastern Regional Championship season.
Hunter Lawrence has been making waves in the AMA championship since joining Team Honda HRC for the 2021 season. A native of Landsborough, Queensland, Australia, he first gained attention when he finished second overall at the U.S. round as a 16-year-old while competing in the 2016 European Motocross Championship. He subsequently moved up to the MX2 class and finished third overall in 2018 with 114 Motorsports Honda satellite squad, despite missing some races. That same year he topped the MX2 class at the Motocross of Nations event, before relocating to the U.S. with his family to ride for the Factory Connection Honda satellite team.
His speed was obvious, and Lawrence and his brother Jett were soon promoted to the factory squad. Despite suffering a few injuries along the way that hindered his bids for an AMA title, Hunter remained consistently fast. He finished in the top three in every AMA championship he campaigned with Team Honda HRC until 2023 when he finally achieved his first AMA title.
Hunter Lawrence’s 2023 title win was well deserved, and his continued success in AMA racing has made him a standout performer. Congratulations to Hunter for earning this impressive accolade and we wish him the best of luck for the rest of the 2021 season!
